This is the richest and most decadent hot chocolate around. It will warm you up on even the coldest night. Flavour it with chilli flakes to really warm your cockles or try ground ginger, cinnamon or cardamom. Don’t be alarmed by the butter: it gives it a real smoothness.


  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 heaped teaspoon dark chocolate drops or chunks


Heat the milk in a pan, watching carefully so it doesn’t boil over. Put the chocolate in your cup and add the boiling water. Stir the chocolate until it melts. Add the condensed milk to the warm milk in the pan and heat through, stirring well to combine. Pour the hot milk onto the chocolate and stir thoroughly to make sure it’s completely melted.
