Pasteis (emapanadas) are great any time of day, but in my experience some of the best ones are sold at the farmers’ market in Ipanema for lunch, accompanied by a fresh cup of sugar cane juice. These pasteis are rectangular in shape and a lot larger than the versions generally made at home or in restaurants, and that is the version I am presenting here. While you can prepare your own pastry dough and roll it into thin discs, I suggest using shop-bought pastry discs - as is done
