Scrub new potatoes; cook in boiling salted water until just tender - 15 to 20 minutes; drain, peel and slice. Place potatoes in a bowl and sprinkle with sugar and wine vinegar. Toss gently.
Sauté bacon in a little oil until crisp. Drain well, pouring bacon fat over potatoes. Crumble or chop bacon finely and add to potatoes. Toss gently.
