    • ½ pound sugar
    • juice of ½ lemon
    • 1 pint


    Combine sugar and water in an enamelled saucepan; bring to a boil and boil for 10 minutes, removing any scum that rises. Add lemon juice and strain through a muslin-lined sieve.
