    • 2 ounces butter
    • ¼ pound castor sugar

    Method

    Torte

    Combine butter, sugar, yolks, vanilla extract, flour, cornflour, baking powder and cream, and beat until smooth. Spread mixture in two 8- or 9-inch sandwich tins.

    Topping

    Beat 4 egg whites until stiff. Gradually blend in sugar, beating continuously. Add vanilla extract, to taste.

    Spread topping over Torte.
