  • 2-3 pounds dried prunes
  • 2 pounds sugar
  • 1 teaspoon

Method

Soak prunes overnight in cold water. Drain.

Combine sugar, vanilla extract, lemon slices, cloves and water in a large saucepan, and bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Lower heat and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Add prunes to sugar syrup and simmer gently, uncovered, adding more water if necessary, for 30 to 40 minutes, or until prunes are almost cooked through. Remove prunes fr
