Kinpira is the name of a powerful mythical hero of old Japan who was bold and dashing—just like the flavor combination of sake with soy sauce. The same word refers to a Japanese cooking style that combines stir-frying and braising. This basic recipe is commonly used to cook such root vegetables as burdock, carrot, and lotus root, or a combination of roots.
