A thick, wintery soup with the nuttiness of barley, learned from my mom.

Ingredients

  • 125 ml vegetable oil
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 1 bunch table ce

Method

Sweat the onions in the oil until they soften. Add the celery and continue cooking till soft. Add salt, pepper, stock, split peas, barley and 3 litres of water. Bring the soup to the boil and then cook on a low heat for about 40–60 minutes. Stir occasionally so that the peas don’t stick to the bott
