You can also top this fancy dessert with fresh local fruits such as strawberries, rasbperries and blueberries. Fresh peaches have such a short season, I use them whenever I can. Because some peach varieties brown more than others, toss them with a tablespoon of lemon juice after slicing. The almond extract is optional but I like to use it with peaches.
