If you ever come across lots of lulos*, buy them all and prepare Lulada. My favorite drink from the region of the Valle del Cauca, it is absolutely delicious. Since it has so much ice, you have to eat it with a spoon. This forces you to enjoy each and every spoonful of this delicacy.


  • 3 to 5 lulos* (about cups)
  • 6 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • cups crushed ice


  1. Peel and quarter the lulos. Mash them with a fork or process for 2 seconds. Place the mashed pulp in a nonreactive container.
  2. Add the sugar and let stand until the sugar has been absorbed and the lulos have given up some liquid, about 1 to 2 hours. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Add lime juice to the refrigerated mixture and stir well.
  4. Fill tall glasses with crushed ice and divide the lulo mixture among them. Serve immediately.
