Known as aval vilayichathu, this Keralan teatime snack is often eaten alongside banana. While not exclusively eaten by the Syrian Christians, it is much loved by this community. The recipe is easy to prepare and delicious alongside a mug of hot chai. Rice flakes, which are white or brown and similar to but softer than cornflakes, are found in Asian grocers, as is jaggery, an unrefined cane sugar, although it can be substituted with muscovado sugar.
