My husband Howard began eating broccoli only after we were married, and this became one of his favorite soups. His mother May Murray had attended The Boston Cooking School before her marriage to Bill La Marca, but her 1915 Fanny Farmer Cookbook didn’t mention broccoli, a vegetable that only Italian immigrants grew for themselves.
