  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped


To prepare the sauce

Sauté the onion, carrot, and celery in the butter and oil. Add the tomato puree and 1 can of water. Bring to the boil, add the sugar and spices, lower the heat, and cook, covered, for 1½ hours.

Meanwhile, prepare the meatballs

Mix the chopped meats, bread crumbs, grated cheese, eggs,
