This was our favorite dessert. My brother Carmelo and I would watch my mother make it, and then we would each get half of the lemon peel that had been cooked in the biancu manciari as a treat.
Long before tiramisu became the rage, my mother would layer slices of pani ri Spagna dipped in sweetened coffee with biancu manciari, for special occasions.
