Everyone who loves baked onions calls this a great supper. Those who quite like them call it a great side dish for lamb, chicken or steak.
Heat the oven to 180°C/Gas 4. Peel the onions and arrange them in a lightly oiled baking tray so that they fit snugly side by side.
Drizzle with the olive oil and bake for 1 hour until soft. Remove from the oven, and turn the heat to 220°C/Gas 7.
