It is said that this was the favourite dish of a Turkish “basha” or dignitary, so it was named after him. It is served with short grain Egyptian rice.
Mix the minced meat well with the spices, salt and flour to form a dough, as you would for hamburgers. Shape into small meatballs with diameter of approximately one and a half inches.
Heat vegetable oil in a pot over medium-high fire. Add the meatballs, tossing gently until they are well browned and taking care not to break them.
