Johnny C’s Tres Leches Cake

This luscious cake is a favorite throughout the Hispanic world and has become popular in North Carolina during the last few years. Tres Leches refers to the three kinds of milk that make up the sweet sauce. My friend John Whitener, an excellent cook and host, shared his version with me. John includes lime zest, which provides a bright note of citrus to temper the cake’s sweetness. Tres Leches Cake is wonderful plain, and gorgeous when garnished with fresh fruit.
