Grease the loaf pan with a nut of the butter. While the grits are still hot, beat in the remainder of the 5 tablespoons of butter. Quickly beat in the egg, taking care not to let it cook before it is completely incorporated. Pour grits into the loaf pan and let cool, covered loosely, at room tempera
