The combination of chorizo and dates is truly ingenious; the dried fruit tempers the bold flavors of the sausage and contributes an unexpected sweet touch. Throw in potatoes and piquillo peppers and you have a small masterpiece. This layered dish is my riff on a recipe I came across in a cookbook from La Rioja dedicated to modern cooking. You can serve it as a luncheon main course, with a green salad, or as a hearty appetizer. Accompanied by poached or fried eggs, it makes a stellar brunch
