Bring an equal quantity of castor sugar and water to a boil and cook until sugar has dissolved, about 5 minutes. Allow to cool before refrigerating. One litre water and 1 kg sugar yields about 1.5 litres sugar syrup. Keeps indefinitely. Sugar syrup can also be made with brown sugar.
