Mexican Wedding Cookies/Snowballs

The first Christmas after Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, a couple wandered into Bea’s Bakery and gazed in wonder at the myriad cakes and cookies on display. When they spoke, we could tell from their accents that they were from Eastern Europe.

Although we understood them, we didn’t know what they meant when, with hope in their eyes, they asked us, “Do you sell Snowballs?” They explained that they were a traditional treat in their home country of Ukraine—sweet globes of cookie dough
