Manhattan is the spiritual home of the visually striking Black and White cookies, which were said to have first been created in the Bavarian-owned Glaser’s Bake Shop in Yorkville. In fact, few pastries have a closer connection with New York than these.

More of a drop cake than a cookie, the idea to decorate these flattened mini cakes in half black and half white fondant icing with chocolate and vanilla flavoring was said to have been borrowed from a popular bakery called Hemstrought
