As a young boy, the Dalai Lama was moved to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, where the kitchens traditionally held no place for pork, eggs or fish, and he remembers how he would beg like a dog for pork morsels on his visits home. ‘It was a little illegal!’ he laughs.
