Biscuits and cakes are not everyday fare in Tibet, but during the New Year (Losar) celebrations Tibetans go to town with khabsey. As these simple biscuits are made into all kinds of beautiful shapes, this is the ultimate opportunity to get the creative and artistic juices flowing.

A symbolic scorpion-shaped cookie is made first. This is an offering to ward off bad luck, including any mishaps in the kitchen, and it will be hung near the stove for the duration of Losa
