I remember visiting the Achiltibuie Hydroponicum in the early 1990s. It was a bit of a phenomenon at the time. The idea of growing exotic fruit, like bananas, in a water-based system in polytunnels on the west coast of Scotland sounded genius. And it drew thousands of tourists to the scattered township of Achiltibuie until 2007 when it was sold and the site fell into disrepair.
