Blackberry Jam

Some of the hedgerows around the Downton estate would likely have been loaded with blackberries from late July into September, keeping Mrs. Patmore and Daisy busy stirring pots on the stove and then packing the jam into jars for use the rest of the year. At teatime, the jam might be spread on scones or used as a filling for small tarts.
