Like lingonberries, blueberries grow wild on sunny hillsides and in sunny patches of the forest all over Scandinavia and in the northern United States and Canada. When I was a child, my mom and dad kept a close eye on their secret blueberry patches in the early fall, as the berries had to be picked as soon as they turned from a reddish shade to that beautiful blue color.
