Like Olie-Koecken, this is another fritter recipe that was especially popular at Christmas and New Years. The original recipe went to great lengths to remove bitter peels and to poach the fruit whole, which suggests to me that something akin to sour Seville oranges were being used. I recommend instead fresh blood oranges, tangerines, or mandarin oranges, since their size is small and closer to those used in the original.
