  • About

This frozen dessert is the recipe of Mrs. J. B. McCreary, wife of the governor of Kentucky in the 1880s. I have added rum, which greatly enhances the flavor.

Ingredients

  • cups currants
  • 2 tablespoons blanched slivered almonds
  • ½ cup</

Method

Put the currants, almonds, and citron in a bowl and add ¼ of the cup of rum. Cover and let stand overnight. The next day scald 4 cups of milk and dissolve the sugar in it. Beat the eggs until light, then pour them into a double boiler over low heat. Gradually add the scalded milk, whisking as you pour
