Aloo Chaat is a savoury snack that can be served as a potato salad or a light meal. Salad Potatoes or other waxy potatoes are used because they hold their shape well. The tangy flavours of the chaat masala and the tamarind make the salad quintessentially Indian.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg (2 lb 4 oz) small salad potatoes, unpeeled

Method

Boil the potatoes in their skins for 15 minutes, or until just tender. Peel the potatoes and slice them into small rounds. Put them in a serving bowl.

Mix the tamarind purée with 2 tablespoons water. Mix all the other ingredients with the tamarind, then season with salt.
