Legend has it (according to one of many versions) that this bread was named by a disgruntled husband who shouted about his wife, “Anna, damn her.” Maybe her version wasn’t as good as ours is—nicely moistened with cream-style corn.

  1. Combine the yeast, warm water, and sugar in a small bowl and set aside until the yeast starts foaming, 5 to 10 minutes.
  2. Stir the flour, cornmeal, and salt together in another bowl.
  3. In a third bowl, stir the corn, molasses, and melted butter together.
