  • About

Essentially a wine-topped whiskey daisy—the daisy being a sour topped with seltzer—the New York sour is an elegant drink that would work well with hors d’oeuvres. Note that claret is an old British term for red wines from Bordeaux, but any nice fruity red wine will work here.

Ingredients

  • 2 fl oz (60 ml) whiskey
  • ¾ fl oz (20 m

Method

Combine the whiskey, simple syrup, and lemon juice in a shaker. Add ice, shake hard for 8–10 seconds, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with the seltzer, then float with the claret, poured carefully on the back of the spoon to create a red layer (see note).
