  • About

Although it shares the same name as the punch, this cocktail is reputed to have been invented by Prince Albert Edward himself. It comes from a 1901 book titled The Private Life of King Edward VII.

Ingredients

  • fl oz (45 ml) rye whiskey or a high-rye Canadian whisky
  • barspoons <

Method

Combine the whiskey, simple syrup, maraschino liqueur, bitters, and pineapple in a shaker. Add ice, shake hard for 8–10 seconds, and strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass. Float the sparkling wine on top (see note).

Express the lemon zest over the drink and drop it into the glass.
