  1. Prepare the crust: Sift the flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon into a bowl. Cut in the butter and shortening with a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture resembles rolled oats.
  2. Moisten with just enough cider, tossing the ingredients lightly with a fork, to permit the dough to be formed into a ball. Wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours.
