  • About

The Bloody Mary has become an American weekend wake-up call, with variations substituting aquavit for the vodka, or adding consommé (for a Bull Shot). Garnish with fresh basil, dill, oregano, or black peppercorns. While delicious chilled, in the traditional way, it is also good hot, served in a mug on the top of a mountain anywhere.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart tomato juice
  • ½ cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons

Method

  1. Combine all the ingredients except the vodka and basil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for 5 to 6 minutes. Let cool.
  2. Pour a jigger of vodka into an ice-filled red-wine goblet or tall thin glass. Add the Bloody Mary mixture, stir, and top with chopped basil. Let chill.
