Arrabbiata in Italian means “angry,” because this is a spicy sauce. One does not often find spicy dishes in Italy, but in Rome and the surrounding area they are more common than in the rest of the country. The amount of hot red pepper here gives the sauce a medium heat. You can increase or decrease the amount, depending on how “angry” you’d like the sauce to be.
