Sweet Sour Cabbage

Kapusta Świeża na Kwaśno


  • 1 medium head cabbage
  • 2 tablespoon butter or
  • 2 onions
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 2 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 tart apples
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper


Shred cabbage, chop onion and combine. Cover with 2 tablespoons of salt and let stand one hour. Squeeze out liquid and cover with boiling water. Let stand 10 minutes and drain. Cover with boiling water and cook with apples, sugar and vinegar until tender. Make roux of butter or bacon fat, flour and one cup of cabbage liquid. Add to cabbage with chopped bacon.
