Okay, you got me—this is essentially just a basic simple syrup recipe, no more exotic than regular old table sugar itself. While it’s not appropriate for those with diabetes (and agave can sometimes be), it can easily fill the gap if you just want to get baking and get on with life. Golden syrup, if available, and light corn syrup can also fit the bill quite nicely.
