Ingredients: 100 g/3¾ oz vegan dark/bittersweet chocolate (70% cocoa solids), plus a little extra for grating on top; 2 tbsp vegan plain yogurt; 250 g/9 oz/2¼ cups icing/confectioner’s sugar; 300 g/11 oz/1 cup plus 6 tbsp, vegan butter; vegan white chocolate, for grating on top (optional); 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda/baking soda; 1½ tsp baking powder; 50 g/2 oz/½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder; 1½ tbsp apple cider vinegar; 300 ml/½ pint/1¼ cups vegan milk; 150 ml/¼ pint/⅔ cup sunflower oil, plus extra for greasing; 2 tsp vanilla extract; 250 g/9 oz/2¼ cups self-raising/self-rising flour; 175 g/6 oz/scant 1 cup caster/superfine sugar

It’s good to have a fabulous foolproof vegan chocolate cake in your repertoire – bake it for celebrations, birthdays or just because! This is smothered in a chocolate buttercream and grated chocolate, but you could dust the cake in icing sugar or cocoa powder for a less fancy affair.
