Steamed Chard with Candied Citrus Zest

Snippets of candied peel make a sweetly surprising counterpoint to earthy chard. If you’re in a hurry, simply steam the chard, season, and toss with the juices, some grated zest, and oil for a no-frills route that’s still a treat. Add minced crystallized ginger, if handy.

  • 1 lemon
  • 1 orange
  • ¼ cup sugar

Method

  1. With a citrus stripper or channel knife, shave thin strips from half the lemon and half the orange; cut into ½- to 1-inch lengths.
