Based in Viana do Castelo, in the north of Portugal, Organização de Produtores Vianapesca is one of the biggest fishing cooperatives in Portugal, with more than 560 associate fishing concerns. A fishing fleet of mainly 400 artisanal boats catches a modest 9,000 tons of fish a year, testament to a traditional fleet using responsible fishing methods. The fish canning company Vianapesca was born with the object of making full use of the volumes of fish caught by the associates in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans. Fish caught at times of the year that guarantee the best quality for canning are reserved for the Vianapesca brand itself.
