Cloves, known as bunga cengkih to Malay-speakers, are actually the flower buds of a tree of the myrtle family indigenous to the Maluku Islands (Moluccas) or the Spice Islands. The buds are harvested and dried under the sun for days. Cloves have a stronger flavour than most other spices and are therefore used in smaller quantities.
