These spiral-shaped sea snails are known as siput hisap to Malay-speakers. It is also sometimes known as balitung in Malaysia and Singapore. In Southeast Asian cooking, these molluscs are commonly served stir-fried with chilli or added to curries. They are cooked with the shells intact. The meat is extracted by sucking at the wider end of the shell.
