Chana dal is yellow in colour and slightly larger than toor dal. Chana dal comes from black chickpeas that are split and the outer husk is removed to reveal the yellow chana. You can soak or cook without soaking, though I tend to opt for the former to reduce the cooking time and aid digestion. They take around the same time to cook as toor, so 40-50 minutes.
