Toor looks very similar to chana dal but is slightly smaller and more regular in shape. You can soak it to speed up the cooking time, but this is not essential. Toor is larger in size than both red split and yellow mung dal, so takes around 40-50 minutes to soften. Itโ€™s used to make the sambar as well as my dhaba style dal fry.
