I keep most of my spices in glass jars in a cool, dark room but I do have a couple of spice boxes near my stove which I use daily. These contain my most used spices in smaller proportions which saves me retrieving the larger containers every time I cook. When you start out, I think this particular piece of equipment is unnecessary; you can just use old glass jars with secure lids instead.
