Nutmeg

Nutmeg is the hard kernel or nut of an evergreen plant native to the Moluccas (Indonesia). The best flavour, described as warm and spicy, comes from using a whole nutmeg, freshly grated just prior to use. Nutmeg is also available ground. It is used to enhance the flavour of savoury dishes but is particularly good with milk-based desserts and sauces.
