Working with yeast is not as difficult as you may think. Yeast is available dried or fresh. Dried yeast generally comes in a box containing 7 g (¼ oz) sachets, one of which is enough for a standard loaf. Dried yeast will keep for about 1 year in a cool, dark place.
Fresh yeast is available at some health food stores and bakeries. Store fresh yeast in the fridge for up to 1 week or freeze for several months.
