  • About
Fruit of the coconut palm. When ripe, it is green and shiny on the outside, and filled with a clear liquid that is good to drink. The flesh is white and tender and can be scooped out with a spoon. It is used in a variety of dessert recipes. When dried, as they are usually sold in grocery stores, coconuts have a hard, brown shell. There is less liquid inside, though it is still good to drink. The shredded fresh or dried meat is used as is, or steeped in boiling water or milk and strained to make coconut “milk” and “cream.”
