The paleo diet is built on the concept that the best diet is the one to which we are genetically adapted, with the premise that human genetics have hardly changed since the dawn of agriculture. Research has shown that the aged populations of hunter-gatherer societies were virtually free of high cholesterol, hypertension and other chronic diseases that have become endemic in Western societies.
There are a number of reasons why the paleo diet may be a healthy choice. Looking at it as a whole, and considering the body is made up of protein, carbohydrates, fats, water and oxygen, it makes sense that if you feed your body those nutrients in the cleanest form possible, then it will perform better. By eliminating processed foods you are automatically eating a low sugar and sodium diet (as long as you don’t add salt to your cooking!), whilst increasing your intake of other great nutrients that come from fresh foods.
